In spite of the expert care of his Belgian
doctor and the Kinshasa hospital staff, Mario, unable to recover from a stomach
operation, passed away on 30th of August this year.
Born Mario Zanos Genezele in Greece on 30th
November 1934, Mario lived much of his life in the Democratic Republic of
Congo. He was devoted to the people and the country of the DRC and after
retiring from active work in Kinshasa he returned to live in his beloved
Kisangani. He was fascinated by what our Foundation was trying to achieve in
Sinia and he joined us as our project manager almost immediately. His main task
has been the supervision of the building of our school, a job he has done with
amazing energy and a discerning eye. He missed nothing and kept the project on
course and on time.
We are very grateful to Mario for all he has done for the Foundation and will miss him greatly. The photograph on the right was the last one taken of him, at work, of course, keeping his beady eyes on the progress of the building team.
